Spread the love

In January 2019, I came across an ad posted for a band from West Vancouver that played famous songs. I contacted them and sent them my videos to impress.

The band existed to create a jam session for the joint playing of famous songs. Everything is conducted there professionally and not as something impromptu as usually happens in jam session.

The band’s director, Mr. John Gabura, who was also its drummer, prepared a list of famous rock songs and asked me to study two intricate solo pieces a week. He demanded that I learn to play the original solo of the songs.

He let me learn to play the song exactly as it was originally recorded. Looking back, I can say with confidence that it was a rock school, a real school. It is indeed a “school by definition,” direction and rehearsals were done from John’s house, in a professional studio he set up for the purpose.

John lived on the far end of West Vancouver. It took me between an hour and a half to two hours of travel in each direction. When I traveled to rehearsals by public transport, I traveled within the city.

The first time I was exposed to a freeway was one of the first times John came to pick us up from a meeting point north of town for his studio. He was driving on “Highway 99” (that’s his name). The road that connects the city from north to west. The fast ride did not leave me indifferent. It was a dominant experience for me as if it was the first time in my life that I was traveling on a highway.

John loved the fast ride. The speed alongside the road lights and headlights of the other cars driving in different lanes did not leave me indifferent. The drivers who drove on this road drove at record speed as if someone had promised them that whoever got to the main junction first would get a million dollars.

The road digested alongside drivers traveling fast at night left a significant imprint in my mind.

This song was recorded on one of the Fridays in July 2019. When I edited the song and heard it several times, it sounded like a wild ride on a highway with all the elements. I do not know what happened to me that evening.

Today I can say that I was in a deep trance when I recorded the solo in this song.

I hope this song will lead you to interesting districts – drive carefully.
